Jem started in the funeral profession in 2009 when the office opened, as a bearer failed to arrive one day and he stepped in on short notice. After enjoying the experience, he decided to take on the job. In 2012, he was offered the full-time position of office manager. He then began the process of becoming a funeral director. Furthermore, in 2013 he became fully responsible for the financial running of the office.
In 2014 Jem decided to pursue further education and began studying for a Certificate in Funeral Services. This certificate was completed in 4 months, and this pass allowed him to study and receive a Diploma in Funeral Services. Having completed this course in 7 months, Jem now has the distinction of holding one of the highest qualifications in the industry. This was no mean feat, as both courses normally run over a 6 and 12-month period! They have also allowed him to become a fully licensed member of the British Institute of Funeral Directors, a title that he is incredibly proud of, and in October 2022 was appointed and invested as National President.
Karen became part of the business after meeting Jem when she lost her uncle in 2013. She began her full-time involvement in January 2015, and she directed her first funeral in February of that year. However, this was just a small taste of the future as Karen has quickly become a favourite amongst our clients, who have even started to ask for her directly.
Following in Jem’s footsteps, she has also attained her Certificate in Funeral Services, taken her Diploma exam, and passed as the National Star pupil for achieving the highest pass mark. She can now title herself Karen V. Mead Dip. F.S. LM. B.I.F.D.
